Clogged drains in Weaverville
A clogged or slow drain is the most common reason people in Weaverville call us. The first thing we work out is where the clog is, because that decides the tool, the time, and the cost.
Check the other fixtures before you call. If one sink or tub is slow and everything else drains normally, the blockage is close to that fixture. If more than one fixture is affected, or water shows up somewhere it shouldn't when you flush or run the washer, the blockage is in the main line, and plunging one fixture won't clear it.
Old homes near Main Street, new homes around them
Weaverville has grown quickly. Census estimates show that half of its homes were built since 2000, while about one in seven dates from before 1940. The two groups have different drain problems.
The older houses near Main Street often still have cast-iron drains and clay sewer lines. Roots get in through the clay joints, and the cast iron rusts rough inside and catches debris. In the newer subdivisions, the pipe is PVC, and a clog is nearly always grease, hair, wipes, or too much paper.
How we clear the line
A single fixture is cleared with a small cable machine, usually in under an hour. A main line is cleared with a sectional machine through a cleanout. Heavy grease or sludge is washed out with hydro-jetting.
If the clog has come back, or the house has older pipe, we run a camera through the line afterward. You see what caused it, and we tell you whether cleaning is enough or the pipe needs a repair.
Sewer in town, septic in the hills
Homes in town connect to the Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County (MSD), which has run Weaverville's sewer system since 1990. MSD maintains the sewer mains. The service line from your house to the main is the owner's to maintain.
Many homes outside of town are on septic systems. We clear drain lines in those homes, but we do not pump or repair septic tanks. When every drain in a house on septic slows down at the same time, the tank is the first thing to check.
They were highly knowledgeable and had the right tools ready to unclog our main line that had massive amounts of roots grown into it. Their expertise and kindness really shown through!
