Clogged drains in Hendersonville
Hendersonville has two kinds of housing, and they clog for different reasons. Census estimates show about one home in five was built before 1960, many of them in the neighborhoods around downtown. About one in three was built since 2000, mostly in the newer subdivisions around the city.
The older homes have cast-iron drains and clay sewer lines, where roots and corrosion are the usual cause. The newer homes have PVC, where the cause is nearly always grease, hair, wipes, or paper. We find out which you have before we start, because the fix that lasts is different for each.
Older homes near downtown
Clay sewer pipe was laid in short sections, and every joint is a place for tree roots to get in. Cast-iron drains under the house rust from the inside until the pipe wall is rough enough to catch paper and grease.
We clear these lines with a sectional machine and a cutter sized to the pipe. If the line has backed up before, we follow with a camera. It shows whether one bad joint can be repaired or whether the line is failing along its length. You see the footage and decide.
City sewer and your service line
Hendersonville runs its own sewer system. It is separate from MSD, which serves Buncombe County. Under the city's utility ordinance, the owner keeps the building's service line in good repair at their own expense, from the house to the edge of the public right-of-way or the city's cleanout. The city owns the line from there to the main.
That matters when a main line backs up. A blockage on your side is a plumber's job. If the camera shows your line is clear all the way to the street, the problem may be in the city's line, and the call goes to the city's water and sewer department.
The city's water system reaches far more addresses than its sewer system does, so many homes around Hendersonville, Flat Rock, and Laurel Park are on city water and a septic tank. We clear drain lines in those homes, but we do not pump or repair septic tanks.
Restaurants and businesses
We clear kitchen lines, floor drains, and restroom drains for restaurants, shops, and offices in Hendersonville. Kitchen lines that carry grease are cleaned with hydro-jetting, which washes the pipe wall instead of only opening a hole through the clog.
The city requires food service businesses to keep a grease interceptor and to clean it out, and it does not accept enzymes or additives as a substitute. Pumping the interceptor is the hauler's job. Keeping the lines to and from it clear is ours.
They were highly knowledgeable and had the right tools ready to unclog our main line that had massive amounts of roots grown into it. Their expertise and kindness really shown through!
